General/practical instructions for cleaning regular quilts
(Different instructions may apply for art/wall quilts, heirloom & antique quilts.)
Cleaning the Quilt
DO NOT DRY CLEAN
Machine wash
- Delicate/Gentle cycle
- Cool/cold water
- Dissolve mild laundry detergent in water before adding quilt
Dry
DO NOT WRING
DO NOT LINE DRY
- Best to lay flat on sheet to air dry
- Use sparingly – low heat in dryer
Display
Keep out of direct sunlight
Storage
DO NOT STORE IN PLASTIC OR CARDBOARD
DO NOT STORE AGAINST NATURAL WOOD (SHELVES OR IN TRUNKS)
- Store protected by cotton sheets or pillow cases
- Fold or roll loosely – don't want permanent creases
- Store in dark place with consistent temperature & low humidity
